Throne of Mollenborg

Warhammer · Atmosphere · Community

Throne of Mollenborg is a Warhammer: The Old World tournament held in a unique, castle-like setting at Mollenborg.

Mollenborg Slot is a private home in Lystrup, a town just outside Aarhus in Denmark. The word "slot" means castle in Danish, but this is not a public castle or a hotel. The tournament is held in the house, so it is a small setting with limited space. Guests and visitors are handled directly with the organisers.

The event is built around competitive tabletop gaming, but with a strong focus on atmosphere, storytelling, painted armies, and the shared hobby experience. Players bring carefully built and painted fantasy armies, then play a series of structured battles across the day, using a clear tournament pack and agreed rules.

For someone unfamiliar with the hobby, Warhammer is a strategy game played with miniature armies on detailed tabletops. Each player commands units of knights, monsters, undead, soldiers, wizards, and war machines, moving them across the battlefield, rolling dice to resolve combat, and trying to outmanoeuvre the opponent.

Throne of Mollenborg is not just about winning games. It is a celebration of the hobby, and of Warhammer Fantasy and The Old World - a setting and game many players have followed, collected and played for more than 30 years.

The name reflects the atmosphere of the event: an old-world fantasy tournament with a slightly grand, historical, and theatrical tone. The goal is to make the players feel that they are taking part in something more special than a normal game day — part tournament, part gathering, part celebration of the Warhammer hobby.
